Fèis Ìle 2021 heads online
Islay’s Fèis Ìle festival will be held online this year due to the uncertainty of the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a statement on its Facebook page, Fèis Ìle said it was with ‘deep regret’ that this year’s festival would be cancelled. The whisky event was due to take place on 28 May to 5 June, and will now be held online.
The statement said: “Even if travel to Islay is allowed, the ceilidhs, tastings and large events that make the Fèis what it is, will not be able to take place.”
Due to the uncertainty of the pandemic, large events may still not be able to take place later in the year, Fèis Ìle said.
The statement continued: “By now the Fèis Committee would usually have arranged and sold out all of our events, and the distilleries would have everything in place. With the current situation, we can’t plan ahead as we don’t know what government guidelines might be. We also need to allow for the fact that people need to be able to make their plans to travel and stay.”
The festival said it will hold a virtual event on the same dates, which it hopes will be “bigger, better and more interactive than ever”.
Furthermore, the special edition bottles released annually by distilleries for the festival will likely be sold online.
Fèis Ìle also cancelled its 2020 event following government guidelines put in place to reduce the spread of coronavirus.
