During the Small Business Entrepreneurship Summit, Courvoisier and the National Urban League awarded US$5,000 grants to five firms across the US.

These included: Kristin Meyers of Bhakti Wellness Yoga, which provides yoga and mindfulness training to organisations, institutions, and individuals; Arion Long from Femly, which offers plant-based alternatives to feminine care products; and Ebony Johnson of Career Connector Pro, an organisation that provides employment transition services for women.

Courvoisier and the National Urban League also awarded grants to Wendell Matthews from Goat and Bear Men’s Grooming, which offers a range of facial hair care products that are natural-certified and free of pesticides, and Clarissa Silva founder of C Silva Solutions, which focuses on improving brain health for communities of colour.

The grants are part of a US$1 million commitment from Courvoisier Cognac to provide lasting support to Black-owned businesses and entrepreneurs over five years.

Marc H Morial, National Urban League president and CEO, said: “Black-owned businesses are essential to our communities and the economy, as the pandemic-induced economic downturn has made abundantly clear.

“Through our partnership with Courvoisier, we’re expanding upon our mission in providing valuable assets and resources to Black business owners facing obstacles due to Covid-19 and helping them navigate these challenges with a better roadmap and path forward.”
