Black Bowmore Archive Cabinet could sell for HK$4m
Islay distillery Bowmore has partnered with auctioneer Sotheby’s to sell the entire Black Bowmore whisky collection in a bespoke cabinet, which is expected to fetch around HK$4 million (US$500,000/ £400,000).
Black Bowmore Archive Cabinet will go on sale next spring
The five archive bottles of Black Bowmore, ranging from 1993 to 2016, will be presented in a bespoke piece of furniture created by John Galvin.
Sotheby’s in Hong Kong will sell the Black Bowmore Archive Cabinet in spring 2021 as the main lot in its Finest and Rarest Wines and Spirits auction.
The winning bidder will be invited to the Bowmore distillery to taste the brand’s rarest and oldest single malts. All proceeds from the sale will be donated to an Islay charity, with details to be revealed at a later date.
Jonny Fowle, Sotheby’s spirits specialist, said: “Black Bowmore is one of my personal favourite whiskies and a dram I have been lucky enough to try on a number of occasions.
“Its value has increased exponentially over the years, which can be attributed to its undeniable quality and, now that so many bottles have been consumed, its newfound rarity.”
The Black Bowmore Archive Cabinet collection includes: the 29-year-old First Edition, launched in 1993; the 30-year-old Second Edition, launched in 1994; the 31-year-old Third Edition, launched in 1995; the 42-year-old Fourth Edition, launched in 2007; and the 50-year-old Fifth Edition, launched in 2016.
