Mount Gay Rum Virtual Tasting

Tonight (17 July), Rémy Cointreau-owned Mount Gay Rum will host an online tasting and cocktail demonstration.

Lead by Dominic Alling, national brand ambassador for Rémy Cointreau, the masterclass will take place on Zoom at 7.30pm PDT and will feature a host of tiki cocktails, rum facts and informative chat.

Harrods Baccarat Bar

This evening (17 July), luxury London department store Harrods will open the doors to its first stand alone bar, Baccarat.

Harrods’ Baccarat bar will feature a menu created by bar manager, Cameron Attfield, which consists of 16 signature drinks based around the concept of ‘Refraction and Clarity’. The interior, which was designed by Fabled Studio, pays homage to crystal house Baccarat.

The venue will accommodate 23 guests when it opens its doors tonight, offering guests a chance to relax in an “intimate and idyllic, yet safe environment”.

Milk & Honey reopening

Renowned London drinking den Milk & Honey will reopen its doors tonight (17 July).

The Soho bar, which was forced to close due to lockdown measures implemented to stem the spread of coronavirus, will open its doors every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 6pm-1am for the next 10 weeks.

Milk & Honey owner Jonathan Downey has been campaigning for a nine-month National Time Out on rent payments and warned that without one, bars will not survive the pandemic as landlords continue pursuing rent payments.

Blend With Character

Bacardi-owned Banks Rum has brought its Blend With Character campaign back to Instagram this week, showcasing creative cocktails and inspiring industry characters from across Europe and the US.

On Banks’ Instagram page, cocktail fans can uncover insider tips with bartenders including Sam Baxendale, A-K Hada, Pietro Collina and Emily Chipperfield.

Through the campaign, Banks Rum is supporting 22 bartenders from around the world through paid-for social media content that supports the on-trade community.

Kraken Cocktail Kombat

Also taking to social media this weekend is black spiced rum brand Kraken, which has launched online cocktail contest, Kombat.

The digital cocktail competition was designed to showcase the skills and creativity of bartenders, while also aiming to financially support them after the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Paying homage to 80s-style video games, Kraken Cocktail Kombat will see eight bartenders battle it out for the final prize of £2,000 (US$2,500), with £1,000 (US$1,250) going to the winner and £1,000 (US$1,250) offered to the bar they’re currently working at.

Moose Daiquiri Day

To mark National Daiquiri Day (19 July), botanical brand Moose will host a cocktail-making masterclass on Instagram.

Taking place on Instagram at 1pm BST, the cocktail-making masterclass will teach drinkers how to create the Moose Chilli & Maple Daiquiri, which combines Moose spirit, lime juice and maple syrup.

The session will be hosted by mixologists Tammy Jackson and Paul Kiely, and will be broadcast on Jackson’s Instagram account, @forcocktailsake.

The Whisky Exchange Simple Serves

Spirits retailer The Whisky Exchange will continue its series of virtual tasting events on Thursday (23 July) with a Simple Serves masterclass.

Hosted in collaboration with mixer brand Fever-Tree, the session will highlight spirit pairings with different mixers in the Fever-Tree range.

Led by The Whisky Exchange’s Dawn Davies and Fever-Tree’s Craig Harper, the session will run on Facebook on Thursday 23 July at 5.30pm BST.

Gente de Mezcal Tasting

Mezcal brand Gente de Mezcal will host the latest instalment in its online tasting series on Thursday (23 July).

Running online from 7pm BST, the session will feature a deep-dive into the brand’s range of batch-produced, single origin agave spirits. The one-hour session will teach participants about the history of mezcal as they explore the Gente de Mezcal range.

Ahead of the session, tickets and tasting sets can be purchased online through Eventbrite.

Ice and Alchemy Virtual Cocktail Classes

Josh Suchan, owner of cocktail consultancy firm Ice and Alchemy will host a virtual cocktail masterclass on Thursday (23 July).

The hour-and-a-half seminar aims to take the practices Suchan uses to train bartenders into the homes of cocktail fans. Through the session, participants will learn to make three cocktails, including two classics and a customised creation.
