Mackmyra & Friends

Swedish whisky brand Mackmyra returns tonight (10 July) with its Mackmyra & Friends online cocktail-making workshop, hosted by UK brand ambassador, Kamil Csonka.

Taking place at 6pm BST on Facebook Live, the 30-minute session will see Csonka showcase Mackmyra’s whiskies and demonstrate how to make two cocktails using the Swedish distiller’s bottlings.

Manchester Gin

Today (10 July), Manchester Gin’s distillery, cocktail bar and restaurant will open its doors to the city’s drinkers.

Three Little Words and The Spirit of Manchester Distillery will reopen with a new set menu, a new summer gin, and a range of distillery experiences.

To celebrate the launch, Manchester Gin have released a new limited edition gin for summer 2020. The Rose & Hibiscus Gin is said to be a “bright, floral addition to the range” and is available to purchase at the bar.

East London Liquor Co reopens

East London Liquor Co will also open its doors this evening (10 July).

The London bar and distillery will welcome guests to its patio bar from 5pm BST today, offering outdoor table service drinks and cocktails on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Lost Estate cocktail kit

Experiential events company The Lost Estate has launched an at-home cocktail experience inspired by Prohibition-era jazz clubs.

The Lost Estate Jazz Age Night In experience features a home-delivered kits that offer spirits, syrups, bitters, bartending equipment, glassware and the soundtrack required to host a roaring ‘20s night-in.

Available to order from bellelivingstonespirits.com, the full box costs £99.99 (US$126) but a stripped down box for those who have the equipment already can be arranged.

Brasserie of Light reopening

On Saturday (11 July), London’s Brasserie of Light will reopen to guests after lockdown measures were eased across the UK.

As part of its opening celebrations, the London venue will have a Pegasus greeter in the restaurant, in honour of the Pegasus art installation at the heart of the bar and restaurant.

Cheng International baijiu masterclass

On Monday (13 July), specialist baijiu importer and distributor Cheng International is launching a four-part online masterclass series on baijiu.

Aimed specifically at those involved in the UK drinks trade, the masterclasses will be hosted via Zoom and led by the managing director of Cheng International, Qiqi Chen. The events aim to encourage people to learn about baijiu, understand how it is made and explore its history in Chinese culture.

Bardstown Bourbon Company virtual tour

US-based Bardstown Bourbon Company has launched an online virtual tour of its distillery in Nelson County.

The site’s “enchanting, interactive and educational experience” offers online explorers the chance to tour the distillery, from outdoor grain bins to the fermentation rooms.

Vice president of hospitality Dan Callaway said: “The virtual tour allows us to expand our reach to Bourbon lovers all over the globe and introduce them to the Bardstown Bourbon Company brand.”

The virtual tour is free of charge and can be viewed on the Bardstown Bourbon Company website.

The Whisky Exchange Let’s Talk Sugarcane

On Thursday (16 July), premium spirits retailer The Whisky Exchange will host its Let’s Talk Sugarcane rum tasting.

Running on Facebook Live at 5:30pm BST on 16 July, head buyer Dawn Davies MW will be joined by a panel of rum experts to taste their way through some of the finest sugar cane spirits in the world. During the tasting, Davies will be joined by Danilo Grenci from Damoiseau, Daniele Biondi from Velier, and Vittorio Capovilla and Alvise Ennas from Capovilla.

A tasting kit of the spirits featured can be purchased ahead of the event from The Whisky Exchange.

Slingsby interactive gin experience

Yorkshire-based Slingsby Gin has launched a new virtual interactive Gin experience for fans of the juniper-based spirit to enjoy from the comfort of their own homes.

Led by one of Slingsby Gin’s in-house mixologists, the 90-minute experience will teach participants all about the history of gin and alcohol, tell the story of Harrogate and the Slingsby brand itself, and share previously unheard gin facts.
