Skeptic Distillery creates Tequila barrel-finished gin
By Nicola CarruthersChicago-based Skeptic Distillery has released a new gin that has been finished in Tequila barrels for seven months, called Ginquila.
The Tequila barrel-finished Ginquila is inspired by the Cantarito cocktailThe 40% ABV product is described as a “unique and versatile creation” that was inspired by the Tequila‐based Cantarito cocktail, a staple in bars in Southwestern US and Mexico.
According to the producer, the Cantarito is thought to be the predecessor to the Paloma cocktail and is served in a clay pot to keep it chilled.
Ginquila is made with juniper, cinnamon, thyme, arbol and chipotle peppers, lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit and papaya.
Like all of Skeptic Distllery’s products, the gin is cold‐vacuum‐distilled to “ensure the utmost freshness and flavour profile”. The resulting liquid is described as having notes of citrus and mild spice.
It is recommended served over ice with grapefruit soda, or in a Tequila cocktail.
Ginquila is available in retail outlets in Illinois and Arkansas with more states to follow. It is priced at RRP US$34.99.
