The new premium gin is made with 12 botanicals, including lemon verbena, hawthorn berries, bay leaves and mulberry leaves from the private garden at Buckingham Palace in London.

The garden is said to provide a habitat for 30 species of birds and more than 250 species of wildflowers. The planting of mulberry trees became popular in England during the reign of King James I and today there are 40 different species of the tree in the garden.

Bottled at 42% ABV, the gin is said to have citrus and herbal notes. It is recommended served over ice in a short tumbler with tonic water and garnished with a lemon slice. The new gin will be served at official events at Buckingham Palace.

Buckingham Palace gin can be purchased online from www.rct.uk/shop for £40 (US$50) per 700ml bottle and is also available to buy from Royal Collection Trust shops.

All profits from the sale of the gin will to the Royal Collection Trust charity, which helps fund the care and conservation of the Royal Collection, one of the largest and most widely distributed art collections in the world.

The trust also manages the public opening of the official residences of Queen Elizabeth II, including Windsor Castle in Berkshire, England, and the Queen’s Gallery in London and Edinburgh.
