Mother Mercy bar reopens with new cocktail menu

Newcastle-based bar Mother Mercy has reopened with a new cocktail menu and an interactive table-side experience.

Mother Mercy is a basement bar in Newcastle, England

Mother Mercy, which first opened last year, reopened its doors on Saturday (4 July). The site has unveiled a new “fun and engaging” experience, called Twist of Fate, which allows guests to spin a cocktail-generating machine.

Each visitor gets two spins and the machine is filled with the names of classic cocktails and prizes such as bar tabs, vouchers and merchandise.

The venue hopes Twist of Fate will “invigorate the cocktail bar experience” and recreate the relationship between bartenders and customers during table service.

Cocktails on the new menu include the King Kong Old Fashioned, made with Bulleit Bourbon, Smith & Cross rum, banana liqueur and bitters, and the Spicy Flamingo, a combination of Jose Cuervo Blanco, fresh watermelon, lime, agave and chilli salt.

The site also offers takeaway bottled pre-mixed cocktails including Run for the Sun, Strawberry Mojito and El Nido Mule. The 750ml bottles are priced at £26 (US$32.50) each.

The basement bar is led by bartenders, Neil Donachie and Luke Comer. Donachie is a brand manager for mixer producer Fentimans and was previously senior bartender at The Savoy’s Beaufort Bar in London, while Comer is a co-founder of Liverpool bar Present Company and the marketing manager for drinks firm Samson & Surrey.
