Cask Trade to hold online barrel auction

Whisky barrel marketplace Cask Trade will host an online auction next month featuring more than 20 casks, including a 1993 Springbank.

The auction will offer casks from Springbank, Glen Ord and Bruichladdich

Cask Trade, which was founded in 2018 with an aim to provide an “open and honest marketplace” for whisky collectors, will host the online auction from 14 August until 8pm GMT on 23 August. The casks are priced between £1,500 (US$1,900) and £35,000 (US$45,000).

The nine-day auction is described as perfect for first-time investors and those looking to start collecting casks.

The live auction will feature casks such as a 1992 Speyside, thought to be a Glenlivet, and a 2009 Bruichladdich Amarone, which was aged entirely in an ex-Amarone wine cask. Other casks to go on sale include two 2015 Glen Ord barrels, a 2008 Glen Moray and a 2011 Glen Garioch.

Cask Trade director, Lee Tomlinson, said: “The majority of casks in the auction are perfect for ageing for five/10/15+ years which makes them ideal for bottlers looking to plan future releases or investors looking to hold onto casks for a longer term investment. We have it on good authority the 1992 Speyside is Glenlivet, so we are expecting that lot to attract much attention.”

Hosted four times a year the next auction will take place in November 2020.
