California orders all bars to close
The governor of California has halted the state’s reopening process and ordered all bars to close as the number of Covid-19 cases continues to soar.
California bars have been ordered to close immediately due to a rise in Covid-19 cases
In a live broadcast yesterday (13 July), California governor Gavin Newsom ordered the immediate closure of all indoor operations in restaurants, wineries and tasting rooms, zoos, museums, family entertainment centres, cinemas and cardrooms in all counties. Bars were instructed to close all operations, including outdoor services.
In the seven-day period ending 13 July, the average number of new Covid-19 cases per day in California reached 8,211, up from an average of 7,878 per day the previous week. There have been 329,162 confirmed cases to date in the state.
Newsom said: “We’re still seeing an increase in the positivity rate, the community transmission, we’re seeing an increase in the spread of the virus.
“So that’s why it’s incumbent upon all of us to recognise, soberly, that Covid-19 is not going away any time soon, until there is a vaccine and or an effective therapy.”
Newsom continued to stress that in order to bring the number of Covid-19 cases down in the state, it would require a collective effort from all citizens.
“I just want to thank everybody for continuing to endure what I know is a very challenging and difficult period of time,” Newsom said. “We were able to suppress the spread of this virus.
“We were able to knock down the growth of this in the beginning. We’re going to do that again, there’s no doubt in my mind. But at the same time, that can’t happen by demanding something of you.”
