Kyoto Distillery opens House of Ki No Bi

Japan’s Kyoto Distillery officially opened its first brand home today (1 June), called The House of Ki No Bi.

The House of Ki No Bi partially opened on 1 June

The House of Ki No Bi is located in the centre of the historical city of Kyoto, housed in a converted traditional ‘machiya’ townhouse, which was built more than 100 years ago as a timber mill.

Due to the pandemic, guests are currently only able to visit the shop on the first floor. The bar area and exhibitions on the second floor will remain closed until further notice.

To celebrate the opening, the first 100 customers who spend ¥10,000 (around US$95) will receive a ‘special gift’ while stocks last.

The Kyoto Distillery is believed to be Japan’s first dedicated gin distillery. In September 2019, the distillery released the first expression in a new ultra-premium gin range inspired by local craftsmanship and culture, called Ki No Jyu.

Earlier this year, Pernod Ricard made a “significant investment” in The Kyoto Distillery, which will also be used to build a new state-of-the-art distillery.
