Avallen to launch £250,000 fundraising drive

Calvados producer Avallen Spirits is looking to raise £250,000 (US$316,000) through crowdfunding to support the next phase of its growth.

Avallen donates €0.50 from the sale of each bottle to organisations dedicated to protecting bees

Healthy Hospo founder Tim Etherington-Judge and wine and spirits specialist Stephanie Jordan launched Calvados brand Avallen in April last year.

The duo is now looking to raise funds to allow the company to hire a head of sales and a marketing director, and complete a carbon assessment to become recognised as a carbon neutral brand.

In addition, the funds will help Avallen to secure more listings in both the on- and off-trade and launch a new SKU “designed for socially distanced group serves in the on-trade and the at-home party”.

The brand is currently listed in UK venues such as The Savoy hotel, Panda & Sons, The Connaught, Lab 22, Terroir Tapas, Oblix and Kwant.

Avallen’s founders are targeting the on-trade with the investment opportunity on Seedrs with bartenders able to contribute as little at £10 (US$12) to own a small part of the alcohol company.

“Both Stephanie and I come from the trade, so it’s really important to us that we continue to support the industry wherever possible, particularly during these difficult times,” said Etherington-Judge.

“Crowdfunding with such a low entry cost means that anyone with a tenner in their pocket can get on the investment ladder and join our mission to build a more planet positive drinks industry.”

Avallen’s ‘bee positive’ message will see them donate €0.50 (US$0.56) from the sale of each bottle to organisations dedicated to restoring and protecting bees, with the aim of planting more than 100,000 wild flowers over the next three years.

The Calvados is packaged in a bottle chosen for its “bartender friendliness”, which is also one of the lightest on the market in an attempt to reduce the brand’s environmental impact through shipping.

Consumers can register their interest in the crowdfunding campaign on the Seedrs website. It is expected to open by mid-July.
