Tarquin’s Gin producer moves into spiced rum

Southwestern Distillery, the maker of Tarquin’s Cornish Gin, has entered the rum category with the launch of a new spiced variant.

Twin Fin Rum has been created to be sipped on the beach

The new “progressive” spiced rum, called Twin Fin, has been created to celebrate the best of the Caribbean and the wild Cornish coast. Family-owned Southwestern Distillery is based in Wadebridge, a north Cornwall town in England.

Master distiller Tarquin Leadbetter said: “Twin Fin is a rum for the beach. It’s zesty, tropical and liberally spiced. The delicious result of two years of research and tasting. There is no other rum like it.”

The rum is made from a “secret” spice recipe including orange and vanilla, which is distilled in flame-fired copper pot stills and blended with Jamaican pot still rum and a light, column-still rum from the Dominican Republic. It is then finished with a small amount of Pedro Ximénez Sherry and rested over charred oak chips for a “rich golden warmth”. It is made with no added sugar or artificial flavours.

On the nose, the rum brings “exotic citrus, oak and light spice” while the palate is described as “smooth and rich” with hints of caramelised banana, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg.

Bottled at 38% ABV, the rum is recommended served in cocktails such as a Mojito.

Twin Fin Rum is available to pre-order in the UK priced at £28 (US$31.10) per 700ml bottle from twinfinrum.com and Amazon. Orders will be dispatched from 26 May. It will also be rolled out globally.
