Nordic Gin House celebrates national holidays

Nordic Gin House is preparing to celebrate five national Nordic holidays with a selection of gins made in the region.

Nordic Gin House has recommended a selection of gins to celebrate upcoming Nordic holidays

On 17 May, Norwegians will celebrate Norway Constitution Day, when in 1814 the country’s constitution was sealed on Eidsvoll. The assembly then elected the regent Prince Christian Frederik to be King of Norway.

To celebrate, Nordic Gin House recommends raising a glass of Oslo Gin, made with botanicals including birch leaves and elderflower.

The Constitution Day in Denmark will take place on 5 June, celebrating democracy since 1849. Leading politicians will spend the day debating and discussing traditions, and Nordic Gin House recommends sipping Danish København Klassisk Gin to mark the occasion.

The following day, 6 June, is the day of the Swedish flag, which commemorates when Gustav Vasa was elected King of Sweden and the Kalmar Union was dissolved. The day became a national holiday in 2005, but history shows it became an unofficial flag day as early as 1916.

Nordic Gin House recommends a toast with Bergslagens Organic Gin to celebrate the day, which is made with botanicals such as citrus peel and local lingonberries.

Later on in the month is Iceland’s National Day, on 17 June. The day usually features a traditional parade through each urban area with a horn orchestra in the foreground.

The riders on Icelandic horses often precede the orchestra and flag bearers from the Icelandic scouting movement traditionally follow the orchestra.

To celebrate, Nordic Gin House suggests sampling a London Dry gin made with Icelandic water, called Stuðlaberg Gin.
