Top Beverages pledges 100% of gin sales to NHS

Cannabidiol (CBD) drinks producer Top Beverages will donate 100% of its gin sales to the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) until the nation’s lockdown ends.

On 23 March, the UK government ordered all but essential businesses and premises to close in a bid to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

All pubs, bars and restaurants had already been ordered to shut to protect patrons and workers.

Members of the public have been ordered to stay at home, and to only leave their homes to do grocery shopping, to take part in one daily outdoor exercise, or for medical reasons.

The UK government will review the lockdown measures every three weeks, with the next review due on Thursday (16 April).

The CBD producer’s three gins – Classic Gin, Super Gin and Bloody Mary Gin – are available to buy from Top Beverages’ website. Each expression contains 50mg of full spectrum CBD.

Proceeds from sales of the gins will be donated directly to the NHS through a Virgin Money Giving fundraising page.

“This is an unparalleled crisis unlike the world has ever seen, and we think our gins are uniquely suited to the moment,” said Nicholas Pullen, co-founder of Top Beverages.

“People throughout the UK are stressed, anxious and in pain. No one has worked harder to alleviate this anguish than the brave men and women of the NHS and other health care professionals around the world, who day in and day out put their lives at risk to save others.

“As a startup, we understand that we cannot offer giant contributions the way large spirit corporations can. That’s why we have made the decision to continue this programme until the lockdown ends. We hope that other craft spirit producers join us and make a similar commitment so that our efforts will snowball into something larger.”

The gins are priced at £39.99 (US$50.20) each and are shipped for free in the UK.
