The Spirits Business’s Covid-19 Campaign will donate 5% of entry fees to The Global Spirits Masters to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and The Drinks Trust

The campaign will see The Global Spirits Masters, the blind-tasting competition run by The Spirits Business magazine, donate 5% of entry fees made during the coronavirus pandemic to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and The Drinks Trust.

People living with cystic fibrosis fall into the ‘high-risk’ group of those thought to be extremely vulnerable to severe illness should they contract covid-19.

As a result, The Spirits Business is looking to do its part in supporting efforts to combat this deadly disease, and support those at greatest risk, through The Spirits Business’ Covid-19 Campaign.

Furthermore, in light of the severe impact the covid-19 pandemic has had on the hospitality industry, The Spirits Business will support the sector through its donation to The Drinks Trust charity.

Melita Kiely, editor of The Spirits Business and chair of The Global Spirits Masters, said: “It has been heart-breaking to see the severe impact coronavirus has had worldwide over these past few weeks.

“Those living with underlying health conditions such as cystic fibrosis must be going through unimaginable worry right now as they fall into the high-risk category of those who could become seriously ill if they contract the virus.

“Charities have been hugely affected by the pandemic, with vital fundraising events cancelled or postponed as social distancing rules have been put in place, making every donation these days even more important.

“Meanwhile, we have seen many of our friends and colleagues across the drinks industry hit by the severity of the pandemic, and all of us at The Spirits Business desperately want to do our bit to help.

“I implore the brands that have long-supported The Global Spirits Masters series, to please continue to do so and to help us support others through this uncertain time.”

The Global Spirits Masters blind-tasting competitions range from Scotch whisky, American whiskey, and world whisky, to gin, vodka and travel retail.
