New Riff Distilling unveils Bourbon and rye whiskeys

Kentucky-based New Riff Distilling has created two new limited edition Bourbon and rye whiskeys, which will launch in May.

New Riff Distilling will launch a new Bourbon and rye whiskey in May

The New Riff Backsetter Bourbon is made from 65% corn, 30% rye and 5% malted barley, while the New Riff Backsetter Rye comprises 95% rye and 5% malted rye.

Co-founder Jay Erisman said: “They’re hauntingly unique, with layers of peat enveloping the spicy, rich rye and Bourbon.

“It’s a small hint of flavours developing in our warehouses – and a great reflection of how New Riff marries a commitment to tradition with a love of experimentation.”

The Bourbon is said to have a rich, oaky nose with peat, a spicy rye top note, smoke, oak, sweet corn and grassy rye on the palate, finishing with smoky peat and a peppery-clove rye note.

The rye whiskey is said to show “considerable” peat on the nose with hints of fruit and grassy rye. With water, cinnamon spice is revealed, leading to a mid-palate of sugared fruit and cinnamon allspice, finishing with Thai long black pepper and grains of paradise.

Both whiskeys have been bottled at 50% ABV and will retail for RRP US$49.99. They will be available to purchase through the distillery’s distributors and New Riff’s Whiskey Club.
