Jura bottles 44-year-old whisky for travel retail
Single malt Scotch producer Jura has created just 21 bottles of a 44-year-old whisky exclusively for travel retail.
Only 21 bottles of Jura Very Rare Vintage 1975 have been created
Jura Very Rare Vintage 1975 will initially launch through DFS before being rolled out to other airports in Asia.
The whisky was first matured in small batch American oak ex-Bourbon barrels, which were said to impart flavours of sandalwood, honey, vanilla and baked apples.
The single malt was then aged for an additional six years in tawny Port pipes from the Symington Family Estates in the Douro Valley, Portugal. This part of the maturation process was said to give flavours of tropical fruit, nectarines and roasted walnuts, leading to a black coffee finish.
Bottled at 46.2% ABV, Jura Very Rare Vintage 1975 has been priced at RRP £6,880 (US$8,545). Each presentation box comes with a 50ml miniature and a book detailing the story behind the bottling.
