Yoshino unveils whisky finished in sakura casks

Japanese wine and spirits maker Yoshino Spirits Co has expanded its portfolio with the launch of the “first” whisky finished in Japanese sakura wood casks.

Kamiki Sakura Wood has been finished in Japanese cherry blossom wood

Kamiki Sakura Wood was first matured in cedar wood casks before being finished in sakura casks. It will launch this month (February).

Available globally, Kamiki Sakura Wood has been bottled at 48% ABV. Sakura is also known as Japanese blossom.

The extra maturation in sakura wood is said to give the whisky aromas of “ripe banana, candied chestnuts, cinnamon and hints of pine” on the nose.

Meanwhile, the palate is said to have flavours of “woodiness, sandalwood and gentle spice”, as well as cherry and floral notes.
