ProWine to reschedule Singapore show over coronavirus outbreak

Wine and spirits fair ProWine Asia will postpone its Singapore event next month due to concerns over the coronavirus outbreak.

ProWine Asia held its second event in Hong Kong last year

Due to be held from 31 March to 3 April, the third ProWine Asia show was set to take place at Singapore Expo, the largest convention and exhibition venue in Singapore. The event is held alongside food and drink trade show FHA-Food & Beverage.

The decision to postpone the event came “after extensive industry consultations” and “aims to safeguard the safety and wellbeing of industry players and employees”.

Organisers Messe Düsseldorf Asia and Informa Markets “are working actively with all partners to find a suitable alternative date”.

The coronavirus (Covid-19) death toll in mainland China rose by 105 to 1,770, according to figures announced early this morning (17 February). There have been 75 confirmed cases in Singapore, according to the country’s health minister.

Martyn Cox, event director, hospitality, food and beverage – Singapore, Informa Markets, said: “The safety and wellbeing of our exhibitors, event attendees and staff are our top priority. There have been signs of community spread and local authorities have issued advisories to avoid large crowds, as a result we expect event attendance to be affected.

“With these concerns in mind, we have made the decision to postpone FHA-Food & Beverage and ProWine Asia (Singapore) 2020.

“Our focus now is to provide our exhibitors, event partners and registered visitors with the support they require as a result of this decision.

“We will continue to work in partnership with the relevant government authorities and agencies and take all further measures in accordance with the latest advisories published by the Singapore Ministry of Health (MOH), the Ministry of Manpower and the Singapore Tourism Board.”

Andrew Phua, director, exhibitions and conferences at Singapore Tourism Board, added: “We will announce the new dates shortly and will be in touch with all confirmed exhibitors to discuss their participation at FHA-Food & Beverage and ProWine Asia (Singapore).

“The FHA [Food & Hotel Asia] and ProWine Asia (Singapore) team will reach out to all participants regarding further logistics and planning.”
