Glenfiddich launches two 44-year-old whiskies

Single malt Scotch brand Glenfiddich has added two 44-year-old whiskies to its Rare Collection – Glenfiddich 1975 Vintage Cask 4706 and Cask 5114, each priced at RRP US$8,999.99 per bottle.

Glenfiddich has added two single cask whiskies to its Rare Collection

The Rare Collection was first introduced in the 1990s and comprised a small number of casks hand-picked by Glenfiddich malt master Brian Kinsman.

Only 100 bottles of each single cask whisky are being released exclusively in the US.

Both casks were filled within a week of each other in 1975. Cask 4706 was aged in a European oak Sherry butt, while Cask 5114 was matured in a European oak hogshead.

Kinsman said: “Selecting the casks to be a part of the exclusive Glenfiddich Rare Collection is a meticulous but extremely rewarding process.

“They must reflect the timelessness of the Glenfiddich character and the mastery of craftsmanship that has gone into creating the outstanding liquid within, resulting in a selection of whisky that is truly beyond compare.”

Tasting notes for Cask 4706 include oak, leather, tannin and parchment, with hints of green apple and citrus. It is also said to have flavours of vanilla with toasted almonds, banana and spring blossom on the finish.

Cask 5114 is described as having spicy oak character with layers of dried fruit, raisins, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and caramelised apple. Additional notes include apricots, prunes and dates, leading to woody spice, toasted macadamia and fruit cake on the finish.

Glenfiddich 1975 Vintage Cask 4706 has been bottled at 48% ABV, while Glenfiddich 1975 Vintage Cask 5114 has an ABV of 54.7% ABV. Both whiskies have been bottled at cask strength without chill filtration or added caramel colouring.
