Diplomático debuts coffee-focused cocktail comp in UK

Venezuelan rum brand Diplomático is bringing its cocktail competition back to the UK this year, which will explore the flavours of coffee.

The Devils Cup competition will focus on the flavours of coffee and rum

The newly named Devils Cup competition will see the rum brand partner with London-based independent roaster, Assembly Coffee.

Now open for entries, the Devils Cup will “encourage bartenders to explore the rich and intense aromas of coffee” and look at how coffee can be paired with Diplomático’s core range: Planas, Mantuano and Reserva Exclusiva.

Participants will showcase their expertise, presentation skills, passion and creativity by crafting a “unique and visual” serve for a panel of judges made up of both rum and coffee cocktail experts.

Jon Lister, Diplomático brand ambassador, said: “Our competition is taking a new direction this year as we wanted to keep it relevant, fun and engaging.

“We’ll be celebrating the current coffee cocktail revolution and take bartenders on a journey of exploration through the flavours of coffee and Diplomático rum.

“We’re inviting contestants to put their creative flair to the test and come up with a coffee and rum cocktail concept that will impress the hell out of us”.

Lister will introduce the competition to bartenders in the UK from this month onwards through training sessions and workshops.

Ten bartenders will then compete in the final in London on 5 May 2020.

The winner will be invited on an all-expenses-paid trip to Slovenia to attend the cherry harvest and assemble with leading European bartenders as part of Diplomático’s global meet up.

Updates of the competition will be posted on the Diplomático & Co Facebook group. To enter the Devils Cup, contact the Speciality Brands team at howidiplo@specialitybrands.com.
