Australian distillers create Aussie Spirit for charity auction
Distillers including Archie Rose and 5Nines Distilling have donated new make spirit to create The Aussie Spirit, which will be auctioned to support people affected by wildfires in Australia.
The Aussie Spirit Auction features casks, bottles and experiences
The Aussie Spirit Auction has seen more than 100 distillers across Australia come together to donate bottles of whisky, gin, rum, and vodka. The auction will also feature the sale of The Aussie Spirit, which is comprised of new make spirit from 12 distilleries aged in barrels donated by barrel supplier Round Oak Barrels.
The Aussie Spirit is made using new make from 5Nines Distilling, Archie Rose Distilling Co, Belgrove Distillery, Manly Spirits Co, Newcastle Distilling Co, Ostra Distillers, Rochfort Distillery, Sawford Distillery, Shene Estate & Distillery, Shipyard Distillery, Souwester Spirits, Tin Shed Distilling Company/Iniquity and White Label Distillery.
The spirit will be auctioned in five barrels from Round Oak, including a 15-gallon ex-rum cask, a 15-gallon barrel that formerly held honey spirit/Bourbon, a heavy char ex-tawny Port barrel, a 10-gallon Bluebird Distillery Four Grain Bourbon cask and a 60-year-old French oak ex-Cognac cask.
The five casks of The Aussie Spirit join a number of other lots, including rare spirits, distillery experiences and distilling equipment.
Highlights of the sale include First Release Single Malt Whisky by Adam’s Distillery, Lark Single Cask LD84 bottling, Spike’s Reserve 15 Year Old Rum by Hoochery, and “unbuyable Bottles” from distillers such as Tattarang Springs, Hartshorn Distillery and Prohibition Liquor Co.
All of the funds raised from The Aussie Spirit Auction will go to Australian charity Rural Aid. The charity supplies financial assistance, water and counselling to farming communities in times of natural disasters.
Organised by a small, grassroots team of volunteers, the auction is live now and more information can be found at app.galabid.com/aussiespirit/items.
The online auction closes on Friday 28 February at 10pm (AEST).
