Distill Ventures snaps up ex-BrewDog boss as European MD

Diageo-backed investment unit Distill Ventures has hired former BrewDog executive Gareth Bath as its European managing director.

Gareth Bath has joined Distill Ventures as European MD

As managing director for Europe, Bath will boost Distill Ventures’ “ability to provide founders with access to the highest calibre support in the industry”. He will also help them to “sharpen their commercial edge” while they maintain their freedom as leaders.

Bath will also ensure the company is at the forefront of industry trends as it continues to search for innovative drinks entrepreneurs across the world.

“Distill Ventures has quickly developed its reputation for successfully building some of the most innovative brands in the industry, so joining the company and working alongside the best talent in drinks is an incredibly exciting opportunity,” said Bath. “I look forward to finding and supporting the best founders across Europe to rapidly scale their businesses.”

With more than 10 years of experience in senior roles in the drinks industry, Bath previously held managing director positions at Scottish brewer BrewDog and most recently at UK-based Chapel Down.

As managing director of Chapel Down’s beer and cider division, Bath led the rebrand of the firm’s beer business and the construction of the Kent-based brewery.

Frank Lampen, CEO and co-founder of Distill Ventures, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Gareth to the team. His experience overseeing major growth at both BrewDog and Chapel Down lends itself perfectly to what we do here at Distill Ventures.

“We’re confident he will deliver on our ambitious portfolio growth plans across both the alcoholic and non-alcoholic categories, while ensuring that we continue to be one of the most rewarding and exciting places to work in the drinks industry.”

Bath will also manage the day-to-day operations of Distill Ventures’ London team and will be based in the city.

Earlier this month, Distill Ventures acquired a minority stake in non-alcoholic drinks brand Ritual Zero Proof.
