Christie’s names global head of wine and spirits

Auction house Christie’s has appointed Edwin Vos as international head of wine and spirits, and lead auctioneer for the category.

Edwin Vos is the new international head of wine and spirits at Christie’s

Vos will be responsible for business development initiatives worldwide and will work closely with wine departments in Hong Kong, New York, London and Paris, and will also oversee the Geneva wine auctions.

Vos joined Christie’s in 2012 as head of the Amsterdam wine department. He started his career in the wine trade after graduating from hotel management school.

He has worked at Christie’s for eight years, specialising in sales of Madeira wines.

In November 2018, the only bottle of 1926 Macallan featuring a hand-painted design by Irish artist Michael Dillon broke the world record for the most expensive whisky after it sold for £1.2 million (US$1.5m) during a Christie’s auction.

This record was broken in October last year when another 1926 Macallan whisky fetched £1.5m (US$1.9m) at a Sotheby’s auction in London.
