Royal Salute bottles 52-year-old blend for travel retail

Pernod Ricard-owned Scotch brand Royal Salute has launched two new whiskies in global travel retail, including a 52-year-old blend priced at US$30,000.

Royal Salute 52 Year Old Single Cask Finish is the first blend in the Time Series of whiskies

The first blend in Royal Salute’s Time Series, Royal Salute 52 Year Old Single Cask Finish, spent its last 14 years maturing in a single oak cask.

Just 35 bottles of the new whisky will be available in global travel retail, while a further 71 bottles will be made available in domestic markets. The whisky is said to have aromas of “ripe plums, toffee apples and dark chocolate-covered hazelnuts”. On the palate, the 52-year-old whisky is described as having flavours of “sweet orange marmalade and hints of ginger and cloves”.

Royal Salute master blender Sandy Hyslop said: “At Royal Salute we have unparalleled expertise in blending such extremely rare high-aged whiskies. Time is precious and fundamental in the creation of blends such as these and we are thrilled to be marking the launch of our Time Series collection with this stunning liquid.

“Every whisky in this blend, the youngest of which dates back to 1967, is influenced and enhanced by the delicate combination of flavours that only maturation in an exceptional quality cask can deliver, and the incredible result speaks for itself. Royal Salute 52 Year Old Single Cask Finish is an unparalleled blend for collectors and enthusiasts alike to seek out on their travels.”

Royal Salute The Treasured Blend was inspired by the crown jewels of England

Royal Salute 52 Year Old Single Cask Finish is presented in a hand-blown Dartington crystal decanter. Each bottle has been individually engraved with a number and will be presented in a Time Series box that has been finished with five different layers of wood, each representing a different decade in the life of the blend.

Furthermore, Royal Salute has also added a new 25-year-old whisky to its global travel retail range – the first 25-year-old expression within the Royal Salute portfolio.

Royal Salute 25-Year-Old The Treasured Blend was inspired by the crown jewels of England, bringing together “precious and powerful” whiskies first laid down a quarter of a century ago.

The whisky has a “decadent sweetness” with flavours of stewed fruit, treacle, toffee and dark chocolate.

Priced at RRP US$260, the blend has been bottled in an individually numbered porcelain flagon that has been enhanced with gold detailing, and a sapphire jewelled stopper.

Royal Salute commissioned artist Kristjana S Williams to create the packaging design for the new whisky. The gift box’s double doors depict the animals of the royal menagerie attending a coronation celebration, surrounded by the royal regalia at the Tower of London
