Nc’nean to launch £1m crowdfunding drive

Highland distillery Nc’nean is looking to raise £1 million (US$1.3m) through crowdfunding to help accelerate its growth.

Nc’nean Distillery is based on the west coast of Scotland

The sustainable whisky distillery has launched a Seedrs campaign to support the launch of Nc’nean’s first whisky next year and further portfolio expansion. It will also be used to continue the growth of its botanical spirit and to buy bottling equipment.

Nc’nean is based on the west coast of Scotland and was founded by Annabel Thomas and Derek Lewis in 2013. The site runs entirely on renewable energy.

While Nc’nean waits for its Scotch to fully mature, the Highland distillery released its first expression – a botanical spirit – in September 2018. Nc’nean Botanical Spirit is made from the distillery’s new make spirit, which is redistilled with a range of botanicals, including fresh grapefruit, locally foraged herbs such as bog myrtle and heather, coriander and juniper. Most recently, the producer added an Aged Botanical Spirit to its range.

“We’re set to establish Nc’nean as a leader in experimental spirits and a pioneer in sustainable production,” said Thomas, Ncn’ean CEO.

“We’ve seen a real consumer demand for authentic and sustainable brands and we believe the Scotch category has yet to tap into a new audience base by attracting them with innovative products, which is where we’re looking to build further on our success to date.

“Our community both near and far is at the heart of everything we do, and I’m really excited that crowdfunding will allow that group to be part of our future success.”

The Seedrs campaign requires a minimum investment of £12 (US$16). In return for funding, the distillery is offering a £20 (US$26) voucher for a £500 (US$656) investment, 15% off for a year and early bird access to all new releases for a £1,000 (US$1,312) pledge, as well as free distillery tours and a free limited edition barrel-aged Botanical Spirit gift pack for higher investments.

The crowdfunding campaign on Seedrs will launch tomorrow (7 December).
