Fife-based Kingsbarns Distillery has released its 2019 Founders’ Reserve Scotch whisky to mark the company’s fifth anniversary.

Opened in 2014, the Wemyss family-owned distiller’s celebratory Founders’ Reserve 2019 expression is a cask strength whisky limited to 3,000 bottles.

The second bottling in Kingsbarns’ series of five Founders’ Club releases, the whisky was matured in shaved, toasted and re-charred red wine barriques from Portugal. On the palate, the whisky has notes of “spiced marmalade and sultanas soaked in cider brandy”.

Bottled at a cask strength of 61.1% ABV, the brand’s latest Founders’ Reserve whisky is available exclusively to members of the Kingsbarns Distillery Founders’ Club.

William Wemyss, representative of the Wemyss family, said: “We have been thrilled by the positive reception to our inaugural release in both the whisky industry and amongst whisky drinkers around the world. Some exciting and different casks continue to mature in our warehouse, none more so than this new Founders’ Club expression.

“Thanks to the passion and dedication of our staff and the great quality and character or our whiskies, we have much to celebrate when we gather at Kingsbarns – toasting everything we have achieved in the past five years and the exciting future that lies ahead for our distillery.”

After opening in 2014, Kingsbarns launched its inaugural single malt Scotch whisky in 2018, which was followed by the launch of the distillery’s flagship single malt made using locally grown barley.
