Speyside distillery Glen Moray has launched a 25-year-old single malt whisky that was finished in ex-Port casks.

Glen Moray has released a 25-year-old Scotch whisky that was finished in ex-Port casks

The limited edition whisky was distilled in 1994 before maturing in ex-Bourbon barrels. The whisky then underwent a finishing period in casks that previously held vintage Port from Porto Cruz.

The resulting 25-year-old whisky is described as being a “rich, complex expression” that is “intense” with the “colour of warm copper”.

Bottled at 43% ABV, the single malt is said to have notes of tropical fruits, ginger and liquorice on the nose and “lashings of fruit and vanilla” on the palate. The whisky has a “long and lingering” finish with dark chocolate and creamy vanilla notes.

The Speyside distillery has released 2,700 bottles of its Port Cask Finish Single Malt Whisky, which is available to buy from specialist whisky retailers carrying an RRP of £175 (US$233) per 700ml bottle.

The La Martiniquaise-Bardinet-owned Scotch distillery, which recently appointed Dr Kirstie McCallum as its new head of whisky creation, launched its own cocktail bitters earlier this year.
