Gin tops survey as UK’s favourite Christmas tipple

Juniper-led spirit gin has scooped the top spot as the most popular alcoholic tipple at Christmas in the UK, according to a recent survey.

Gin ranked number one in a Christmas survey regarding the UK’s favourite festive spirits

The survey, conducted by Censuswide on behalf of cask investment company Whiskey and Wealth, found that 26% of those questioned cited gin as their favourite alcoholic beverage at Christmas.

This was closely followed by vodka (24%) and then whisky (22%). Rum placed fourth (18%), while brandy came in fifth (12%).

When the results were divided by age, the survey showed the millennial generation, those aged 18-34, had more of a penchant for vodka (34%), followed by whisky (32%) and then gin (29%).

A total of 1,053 UK adults, aged 18 and over, were questioned as part of the Christmas survey.

Jay Bradley, founder of Whiskey and Wealth Club, said: “Christmas is a great time for sharing a bottle of your favourite drink among family and friends.

“We’re not surprised that gin is so popular, but it’s great to see whisky continue its rise in popularity, particularly among younger people.

“The growing popularity of whisky among millennials – and sustained love from older generations – is what makes this such an exciting time to invest in the spirit.”
