Cask Trade to host online barrel auction

Whisky barrel marketplace Cask Trade will host its first online auction dedicated to casks of whisky next month.

Auctionyourcask.com will feature whiskies from Aberfeldy, Bruichladdich, Aberlour and Springbank

Cask Trade, which was founded in 2018 with an aim to provide an “open and honest marketplace” for whisky collectors, will host the online auction from 22 January 2020.

Launching at auctionyourcask.com, the sale will allow private owners and investors to sell their cask to independent bottlers and other investors all around the world.

Cask Trade owner, Simon Aron, said: “With the launch of auctionyourcask.com we offer a fresh approach to selling whisky by the cask, not just the bottle.”

The first auction will run until 2 February and features 24 casks, including an Aberfeldy 2005, Bruichladdich Chateau Margaux, Aberlour 1990 and Springbank 1995.

In preparation for the sale, all casks will need to have had a recent re-gauge, a “health check” of the barrel and its contents. A full 700ml sample bottle will also be drawn from each barrel in the sale so that bidders have the opportunity to try the whisky before they buy.

Those looking to register their interest in the auction should visit auctionyourcask.com, where prospective buyers can also register to attend one of two tastings of the cask-strength whiskies. The tastings will take place at Cask Trade’s offices on London’s Regent Street on 15 January.

Hosted four times a year the next auctions will take place in April, July and October 2020.
