The Wine and Spirit Trade Association (WSTA) has appointed five new members to its board, including executives from Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Berry Bros & Rudd, LVMH and Encirc.

The executives include: Elizabeth Newman, directors for beers, wines and spirits at Sainsbury’s; Jason Godley, director of beers, wines and spirits at Tesco; and Lizzy Rudd, executive chairman at Berry Bros & Rudd.

Newman said: “It’s an incredibly interesting time to be joining the WSTA. The industry is being challenged in so many ways and I’m excited to be part of a team that is personally and professionally invested in protecting and influencing the future.”

The trade group also welcomed Bertrand Steip, managing director at Moët Hennessy UK, and Adrian Curry, managing director at glass manufacturer Encirc, onto its board.

Curry added: “Our industry, like many others, is facing unprecedented challenges in the environmental, political and supply chain arenas. I am very pleased to be asked to join the WSTA board at this time.

“I am confident that with the combined focus of WSTA and its members we can rise to these challenges and continue to develop the industry for our long-term success.”

The five latest additions to the board bring its membership up to 16, following the appointment of Campari Group UK managing director Brad Madigan and iForce CEO Sébastien Desreumaux earlier this year.

Michael Saunders, chairman of the WSTA, said: “I am delighted to have welcomed five experienced industry figures as WSTA board members.

“They will add their collective wealth of experience to an already impressive WSTA board to ensure that we hear and consider views from all types of businesses and from all corners of the wine and spirit industry.

“As a board we are increasingly well equipped and motivated to deliver the WSTA’s aims for our industry, including more active engagement in setting the WSTA’s agenda and delivering its recently refreshed aims in what promises to be another challenging year in 2020.”
