Smirnoff recruits Laverne Cox for Christmas campaign

Diageo-owned Smirnoff vodka has once again partnered with Orange is the New Black star Laverne Cox to launch a festive advertising campaign.

The latest festive campaign from Smirnoff features Laverne Cox and Toddy Smith

The latest campaign from the vodka brand will be broadcast on TV and will also be published across digital and social channels.

Starring Cox, the campaign features a ‘hero’ film that follows an “over-the-top” festive party that shows Smirnoff vodka in “unexpected ways” – such as a festive tree made of Apple Martinis and a Moscow Mule hidden under a fruit cake.

Content creator and author Toddy Smith also makes a cameo in the ad.

Cox said: “Working with Smirnoff is just a joy. I love how they’re always upping their game, making each campaign more creative and unexpected than the last, so coming to set is always such a fun experience.

“Smirnoff is my go-to for the holiday season because they have something for everyone, whether you’re stuffing stockings and wrapping gifts or bringing party favours to a fabulous soirée.”

The new advert also showcases festive bottling Smirnoff Peppermint Twist and the Smirnoff No 21 Ornament bottles, which are both available to purchase in retailers across the US.

Krista Kiisk, brand director at Smirnoff, said: “Sometimes, when celebrating the holidays with friends and loved ones, it’s hard to find a drink that everyone can agree on. At Smirnoff, we offer delicious options for everyone, whether they’re looking for a zero-sugar alternative like Smirnoff Seltzers or looking to indulge with decadent flavours like Smirnoff Kissed Caramel.

“We couldn’t be more excited to have Laverne onboard for this campaign as she’s the epitome of fun and elegance, perfectly embodying what Smirnoff brings to the table this holiday season.”

The new creative is the latest Smirnoff ad to star Cox. In August last year, the Orange is the New Black star featured in Smirnoff’s Welcome to the Fun% spot and in the brand’s Welcome Home campaign in June 2019.
