UK cocktail consumption hits £604m

The UK sipped £604 million (US$759.5m) worth of cocktails in 2018, according to new figures from research data analyst CGA.

The Porn Star Martini is the UK’s favourite cocktail

According to the latest data from the CGA Mixed Drinks Report Q3 2019, as reported by Funkin Cocktails, 10.3 million Britons were responsible for breaking through the £600m cocktail barrier.

The Porn Star Martini was named the nation’s favourite cocktail, representing a 14% year-on-year increase.

The Mojito placed second, while the Espresso Martini moved up to sixth place and the Piña Colada “benefitted from a resurgence” and grew 35%, which bumped it up to eighth place.

Ben Anderson, marketing director at Funkin Cocktails, said: “The popularity of cocktails in the UK continues to grow and shows no signs of waning, with the market currently growing by almost 10% year on year and the number of consumers drinking cocktails has increased by almost 10% year on year too.

“The cocktail industry is thriving, bartenders are becoming more creative and consumers becoming better educated and more discerning.

“Classic cocktails are the key to driving customer footfall and maximising sales. We offer a total cocktail situation for bartenders of all abilities and experience and our product portfolio, which is 96% vegan-friendly, blends flavour innovation with natural ingredients.”

Earlier this year, a report by travel agency Travel Republic found one in three Brits disapprove of “sexually suggestive” cocktail names like Sex on the Beach and Porn Star Martini.
