Tales on Tour Puerto Rico to return in 2020

The Tales of the Cocktail (TOTC) festival will return to Puerto Rico for the 2020 instalment of Tales on Tour.

Tales on Tour will head to Puerto Rico on 19-22 April

The four-day festival will take place from 19-22 April in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, and follows Tales on Tour’s first trip to the country earlier this year. The flagship TOTC event takes place in New Orleans each summer.

The touring festival aims to further the TOTC Foundation’s mission to educate, advance, and support the drinks industry on a global scale.

Gary Solomon Jr, board of directors co-chair, said: “Bringing Tales on Tour to Puerto Rico this past March was one of the more meaningful things we have ever done as a foundation.

“When we arrived last year we wanted to create a lasting impact and when we left, we felt our work in Puerto Rico was far from done. We are thrilled to be returning to further aid the larger hospitality community.”

Tales on Tour 2020: Puerto Rico will feature masterclasses on service, a ‘Beyond the Bar’ programme centred on mental health and wellness, networking dinners and the foundation’s Cocktail Apprentice programme.

The Puerto Rico festival will also include a ‘Day of Education’, which will include a seminar from Jeff Berry, the 2019 recipient of the Golden Spirit Award. Each year at TOTC, the award is given to the seminar presenter who receives the highest evaluation scores from attendees. Berry will be presenting his seminar The Cocktail Menu: History & Theory, which will explore the past, present and future of the cocktail menu.

Other seminars set to take place on the Day of Education include The Queer Community Revealed: Turning Allies into Advocates with Chris Cabera, Personal Branding: Behind the Bar & Beyond from Eylane Duff and Operation Bootstrap: How Puerto Rico Reinvented Rum, 1930-1960 by Culture Advisory Committee member Wayne Curtis.

More details will be released in the weeks to come.

During this year’s TOTC in New Orleans, New York’s Dante walked away with the title of World’s Best Bar during the festival’s Spirited Awards.
