Speed Rack to host first Hong Kong contest
All-female bartending competition Speed Rack is preparing to head to Hong Kong for the first time next month and raise vital funds for breast cancer research.
Speed Rack will host its first contest in Hong Kong next month
Founded by bartenders Ivy Mix and Lynnette Marrero in 2011, the Hong Kong instalment of Speed Rack will see 16 bartenders from Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, China, South Korea and Vietnam go head-to-head for the title of Miss Speed Rack Asia 2019.
The competition is scheduled to take place at The Salon of Michelin-starred restaurant Duddell’s in central Hong Kong on 27 October 2019, which will mark Speed Rack’s second instalment in Asia.
Judges for the Hong Kong Speed Rack contest include Jay Khan, owner of Hong Kong bar COA; Charlene Dawes, founder of hospitality operator Tastings Group; Martin Huda, co-owner of Maybe Sammy in Sydney; and Micaela Piccolo, spirits director for Nimbility Asia.
During the competition, the 16 bartenders will compete in a qualifying round to test their speed and aptitude. The eight fastest times will advance to the live on-stage finals at Duddell’s.
Speed Rack aims to shine a spotlight on leading female mixologists from around the globe, while raising money for breast cancer research, education and prevention.
The competition has raised more than US$1 million for breast cancer charities since its inception and has seen more than 1,200 women compete in regional heats of the contest.
Tickets for the Hong Kong Speed Rack contest are available from HKD250 per person before 20 October 2019, and will also be available on the door on the day of the competition.
