Rémy Martin unveils Tercet Cognac

9th September, 2019 by Nicola Carruthers

Cognac brand Rémy Martin has released a new permanent expression in the US and China, called Tercet.

Rémy Martin Tercet is bottled at 42% ABV

Tercet is the result of a collaboration between Rémy Martin cellar master Baptiste Loiseau, Rémy Martin master distiller Jean-Marie Bernard and wine master Francis Nadeau.

When Loiseau joined the Cognac house in 2007, he found certain eaux-de-vie that were “very pure with expressive fruit aromas”. This liquid was brought to Bernard and Nadeau so they could create a new Cognac that “varied slightly in tonality” to the classic characteristics of Rémy Martin.

The trio worked together on the project for 10 years. A few French oak barrels, each containing 350 litres, were reserved for these eaux-de-vie following the 2009 grape harvest.

Unlike most houses, Rémy Martin continues to distil its Cognacs on the lees – with the residual yeast – in small copper stills.

“We had to see the process through to the end,” explained Loiseau. “It was important to find the best casks and the right ratio of new wood to reveal the potential of these pure eaux-de-vie and to shape their intensity.

“It was necessary to enhance them through maturation without crushing them to highlight their acid notes and tone.”

Tercet will be the first permanent expression to join the Rémy Martin range since the launch of Rémy Martin 1898 in 2010.

The packaging of Tercet features the faces and signatures of the three creators to symbolise the “union of skills and expertise”.

On the nose, Tercet is described as having exotic fruits at its core, including lychee and dried yellow fruits like apricot. The palate is “punctuated with notes of citrus fruits, fleshy fruits, and spices”.

It is recommended served after ice cream or a light citrus dessert.

Loiseau called Tercet a “new milestone in the history of the house” and said “other innovations will come within the next two years”.

Bottled at 42% ABV, Rémy Martin Tercet is priced at US$110. It is available in the following US states: California, Florida, New York, Texas, Massachusetts, Illinois, Georgia, Maryland, Colorado, Washington, DC, New Jersey, Nevada, Indiana, Virginia, South Carolina, Tennessee.
