Black Tot rum prepares to launch
Elixir Distillers has combined four styles of pot and column still rums from Guyana, Barbados and Jamaica for its latest release – Black Tot.

Black Tot has been matured in ex-Bourbon barrels and aged solely in the Caribbean.
Created by Elixir Distillers rum maker Oliver Chilton, Black Tot is said to have flavours of tropical fruits, Caribbean cakes and “intense” espresso, leading to sweet spices on the finish.
The expression takes its name from Black Tot Day, which refers to 31 July 1970 when the British Navy abandoned the tradition of giving a daily tot of rum to sailors.
Black Tot follows the 2011 limited edition Black Tot – The Last Consignment, which was priced at £650 (US$815) per bottle.
Bottled at 46.2% ABV without chill-filtration, the new Black Tot will be available from The Whisky Exchange and other spirits retailers from October, priced at RRP £39.95 (US$50) per 700ml.
Chilton said: “This rum has been a long time in the making because it needed to be just right in order to pay homage to the story of Black Tot.
“We created 26 versions of this rum over the last two years and we believe the final recipe is a delicious and complex rum for today’s tastes. It’s not an everyday rum, but it is a rum for every day.”
