Glen Moray finishes 21yo single malt in Port casks

Scotch whisky brand Glen Moray has expanded its Elgin Heritage Collection with the launch of a 21-year-old single malt finished in Port casks.

Glen Moray Aged 21 Years Portwood Finish is bottled at 46.3% abv

The “multi-layered” Glen Moray Aged 21 Years Portwood Finish whisky is said to be a combination of “spicy sweetness” from ex-Bourbon casks and “red wine flavours” from Port casks.

Glen Moray master distiller Graham Coull was interested in the interaction of the spirit with the Port cask towards the end of maturation.

He described the whisky as “the perfect balance of American oak and Port flavours”.

On the nose, it has “intense berried fruits smothered in creamy vanilla, rich caramel and fresh baked gingerbread”. The palate has notes of blackcurrant and liquorice, followed by “chewy caramel toffee and chilli-infused chocolate”.

The expression is available to purchase during Royal Mile Whiskies’ annual Whisky Fringe Festival in Edinburgh from 9-11 August, in store and online from Royal Mile Whiskies, and in wine and spirits retailers after the event.

Bottled at 46.3% abv, Glen Moray Aged 21 Years Portwood Finish is priced at £125 (US$151.34) per 700ml bottle.

Earlier this month, Glen Moray expanded its Elgin Curiosity series with the launch of a single malt finished in agricole rum casks.
