Distilled Spirits Council unveils Spirits United

The Distilled Spirits Council has launched Spirits United – an online platform designed to bring together a “community of advocates” to improve and promote the alcohol beverage industry.

Spirits United was created by the Distilled Spirits Council, the American Distilling Institute and Tips

The US trade body partnered with the American Distilling Institute (ADI) and alcohol training programme Tips to create the online site.

The Spirits United platform offers information on “key issues” facing the spirits industry, hospitality professionals and consumers, and gives users the chance to “weigh in” on matters of importance to them.

Chris Swonger, president and CEO of the Distilled Spirits Council, said: “From industry professionals to the millions of spirits consumers, there is a special community who are very passionate about the distilling industry’s rich heritage, its commitment to responsibility and the craftsmanship of spirits products.

“Through Spirits United, we want to harness this enthusiasm and shared interest in the spirits sector and encourage this community to join us in advocating on behalf of our industry and our consumers.

“The US spirits industry generates US$178 billion in economic activity and 1.6 million American jobs. We invite all the spirits sector, including state distillers and bartender guilds, supply chain partners and other industry organisations to join us in expanding the Spirits United network.

“Our goal is to build out Spirits United so that spirits advocates in any city or state can be quickly mobilised to engage with their elected officials.

“Growing and activating this grassroots network will help ensure that distillers small and large continue to thrive and that adult consumers have responsible and convenient access to their favourite distilled spirits products.”

Swonger, along with Erik Owens, vice president of ADI, and Adam Chafetz, president of Tips, stressed that the “foundation of Spirits United” was a “strong commitment to responsibility”.

The platform will use social media to encourage spirits advocates to join industry efforts to prevent underage drinking and drink driving, and also promote responsible alcohol consumption.
