Waitrose offers at-home gin tasting experience

UK supermarket Waitrose is capitalising on the gin boom with the launch of an at-home gin tasting service.

Waitrose’s Gin O’ Clock experience is priced at £400

Launched by Waitrose Wine Tasting at Home, the gin service – called Gin O’Clock – can take place in private accommodation, office or event space.

It can be booked for groups of six to 10 people, who will be led through an educational tasting with a Waitrose gin specialist. The tasting includes five types of gin, which can be sampled neat and then paired with Fever-Tree tonics.

In addition to learning about the history of gin, guests will learn how to make “the perfect” gin and tonic.

“The Waitrose Wine Tasting at Home Gin O’ Clock experience is a fun and relaxed way for you and your guests to find out more about various gin flavour profiles,” said Andrew Riding, drinks experience manager at Waitrose.

“From knowing how much ice to use, to which glass choice is best, our experience will help hone your gin and tonic making skills.

“Britain is having a great love affair with gin at the moment and we are excited to either teach fans more about their favourite drink or introduce the world of gin to newcomers.”

The experience is available across Britain and is priced at £400 (US$508).

Last year, Waitrose said it had more than doubled its range of local gin brands in just a few months off the back of soaring demand for ‘craft’ products.
