Spirit Master: Woodford Reserve Double Oaked

With National Bourbon Day tomorrow (14 June), we highlight Woodford Reserve Double Oaked, which was given the top accolade in SB‘s American Whiskey Masters last year.

Woodford Reserve launched Double Oaked in 2012

Every week, SB celebrates some of the top scoring Master medallists from The Global Spirits Masters blind-tasting competitions as part of our Spirits Masters series.

One of only three Master medallists in the American Whiskey Masters 2018, Woodford Reserve Double Oaked was praised for its notes of “espresso”, “nuts”, “black pepper” and “barbecue” in the Bourbon – Super Premium round.

Spanning rye, corn, wheat, Bourbon and single malts, the competition proved that distillers have been upping their game when it comes to quality.

In addition to grabbing a Master medal, Woodford Reserve Double Oaked was also named Taste Master – meaning it was deemed ‘best in class’ among the Master recipients on the day.

Produced by Brown-Forman, Woodford Reserve Double Oaked has been matured in two separate white oak barrels.

The first barrel is crafted from oak that has been seasoned outdoors for nine months and is completely toasted and charred on the inside.

The second barrel has been toasted for more than twice as long as the first barrel and is then very lightly charred.

The 90.4 proof (45.2% abv) Bourbon, which launched in 2012, became Woodford Reserve’s first permanent line extension. It is priced at US$57 per 750ml bottle.
