Balcones and Boutique-y bottle single cask range

Texas-based Balcones Distilling has partnered with That Boutique-y Whisky Company to release four single cask American whiskeys, including a single malt part-aged in a Tequila barrel.

Balcones Three Year Old (That Boutique-y Whisky Company) – Batch Two has been part-aged in Tequila casks

Balcones Two Year Old (That Boutique-y Whisky Company) – Batch One is a two-year-old single malt finished in a Balcones brimstone cask, said to have notes of smoky bacon, hickory, mesquite and camp fires. With an abv of 51.1%, only 300 bottles will be available.

Balcones Three Year Old (That Boutique-y Whisky Company) – Batch Two is a single malt that has been part-aged in a Tequila cask for 24 months to impart a “bold vegetal, yet dried fruit sweetness”. It has an abv of 51.2% and is limited to 212 bottles.

Balcones Two Year Old (That Boutique-y Whisky Company) – Batch Three is also a single malt, but this time finished in an oloroso Sherry cask and bottled at 47.8% abv. This is Balcones’ third Sherry cask-matured single malt and is said to have notes of plums and spicy treacle. Only 147 bottles have been made.

The fourth spirit has been made from 100% blue corn – Balcones’ signature corn grain – and will be released in September. It has been finished in Pedro Ximénez casks and is said to have the brand’s “signature blue popcorn notes” and an “unctuous richness”.

Jared Himstedt, Balcones’ head distiller, said: “We wanted to share some single casks that showcase some of our fun experiments and finishes, alongside the versatility of our blue corn spirit, which we’ve not released in Sherry casks before. We hope that people who enjoy our spirits have a chance to taste and enjoy these limited releases.”

Batch One, Two and Three are available now from Master of Malt, priced at £69.95 (US$89) per 500ml.
