Macallan unveils Estate whisky
Edrington is set to release a new Macallan single malt whisky, which contains “rare” spirit made with barley from the brand’s Easter Elchies estate.
The Macallan Estate will be available to buy from July
Bottled at 43% abv, The Macallan Estate whisky is described as “rich and complex” with a “long finish”. It was created to celebrate the brand’s provenance and heritage.
The liquid made from the Speyside brand’s home-grown barley is distilled once a year over seven days. Previously, it was limited to Macallan’s “most exclusive” bottlings.
The 485-acre Easter Elchies estate has been the home of The Macallan since 1824. The barley fields are located on the banks of the River Spey.
In June last year, Edrington opened its new £140 million (US$188.4m) Macallan distillery and visitor centre.
The Macallan Estate has notes of wood spice and orange oil on the nose, while the “sweet subtle hint of citrus” complements the brand’s traditional Sherried richness.
Sarah Burgess, whisky maker for The Macallan, said: “Our Easter Elchies estate lies within the legendary Speyside region of Scotland, a place of timeless natural beauty, and a place that we are proud to call home.
“With its wonderful sweet citrus hints and warming wood spice, The Macallan Estate is a rich, satisfying and complex spirit that pays homage to the fertile Speyside lands where The Macallan is located and celebrates the unrivalled craftsmanship for which we have been known since 1824.”
The Macallan Estate is packaged in a gift box featuring landscape-inspired designs. The inside of the box contains aerial photography of the barley fields.
Priced at £195 (US$245.62), The Macallan Estate will be available to buy from select whisky specialists from July.
