Licor 43 seeks world’s best bartenders and baristas

Spanish liqueur brand Licor 43 is on the lookout to find the world’s best cocktail and coffee connoisseurs as part of its Licor 43 Bartenders and Baristas Challenge 2019.

The Licor 43 Bartenders and Baristas Challenge 2019 is open for entries

Now in its third year, the competition is open to bartenders and baristas from 13 regions: Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, the UK, the Netherlands, Belux, Estonia, Germany, Australia, Russia, South Africa and Spain.

National heats will take place over the coming months, during which time one bartender and one barista will be selected from each country. An additional bartender and barista will be chosen from the global European Bartender School network.

The 28 finalists will compete in the global final in Gran Canaria this October.

Julian Fernandez Estevez, global marketing director of Spirits at Zamora Company, owner of Licor 43, said: “Coffee has always been in our roots, going back to the Café Asiático in Cartagena and Café Barraquito in Tenerife in the 1950s.

“There is a natural marriage of aromas and flavours between the two, and this proved a real inspiration to entrants last year.

“We were often amazed at the creativity, knowledge and passion from contestants and look forward to seeing their skills and specialisms showcased once again.”

Bartender Søren Krogh Sørensen and barista Jonas Gehl, who together made up the Danish team, were crowned winners of the 2018 competition with their cocktail, called Skalud, which combined Licor 43 Original, grapefruit juice, orange bitters, Canary Island honeyed rum, espresso, and a juniper and grapefruit spray.

To enter, contestants should visit www.licor43bartendersandbaristas.com or contact global brand manager Sara Massa at sara.massa@zamoracompany.com.

Licor 43 launched its Baristo coffee expression in June 2018, following the launch of Licor 43 Orochata in 2016.

The original expression first launched in 1946 and is made from 43 secret, “natural” ingredients, including Mediterranean citrus fruits and botanicals.
