Laphroaig launches Càirdeas Triple Wood Cask Strength

Beam Suntory has unveiled the 2019 bottling from the annual Laphroaig Càirdeas series, called Càirdeas Triple Wood Cask Strength.

Laphroaig Càirdeas Triple Wood Cask Strength is bottled at 51.4% abv

The whisky has been created to celebrate the ‘friends of Laphroaig’ and mark this year’s Fèis Ìle festival on Islay, where the distillery is located.

Càirdeas Triple Wood Cask Strength is first aged in ex-Bourbon barrels, then quarter casks and then finished in ex-oloroso Sherrry European oak casks.

Bottled at cask strength 51.4% abv, the whisky has an RRP of £77/ US$79.99, and €83 in Germany and €92 in France.

It is said to have aromas of leather, tobacco leaves, spicy lemon and clementine zest, which leads to toffee, dates, maple syrup, praline and crème caramel on the palate.

Tasting notes also include golden syrup, heather honey, autumn leaves, hazelnuts, vanilla fudge, a hint of white pepper and nutmeg.

The finish is described as sweet and long with caramel and spicy, buttery fudge.

John Campbell, Laphroaig distillery manager, said: “Our friends are very important to us at Laphroaig. It’s a polarising whisky, so it means a great deal that our fans remain loyal to our liquid and continue to push for newer expressions.

“Friends of Laphroaig gives us a great opportunity to engage with our supporters and give back to them with this exclusive Càirdeas whisky.”
