‘World’s first’ Old Fashioned vending machine tours UK

Scotch producer Whyte & Mackay has created the “world’s first” Old Fashioned vending machine, which will dispense complimentary whisky-based cocktails at key locations across the UK.

Whisky lovers can grab free Old Fashioneds from a vending machine this weekend

The Woodsman Vending Machine will make its debut at the Underbelly Festival on London’s Southbank this weekend (19-21 April).

The machine seeks to challenge the notion that whisky cocktails can be complicated to make by serving a “quality Old Fashioned to drinkers in a flash”.

Whisky fans can build their cocktail by pulling levers and turning wheels.

The device creates the classic serve using The Woodsman blended Scotch whisky, which was designed to entice younger drinkers who are normally “put off” by the category’s more “traditional” characteristics.

Rod Gillies, head of innovation at Whyte & Mackay, said: “Everyone loves a good Old Fashioned, and our maple syrup version is a cracker. But what would make it even better is being able to get hold of one wherever you are, on demand.

“So we’re stripping away the rules and complexity which sometimes surround Scotch and making it quick and simple to get a brilliant drink.

“We’ll be touring the UK with the Woodsman vending machine, popping up in various cities and dispensing Old Fashioned cocktails as we go.”

The Woodsman Vending Machine will also visit Spring Edition at Tynebank Brewery, Newcastle on 26 April; Hatch, Manchester on 10 May; and The Dockyard Social in Glasgow on 24 May.
