Oriole unveils around the world-inspired cocktails

1st April, 2019 by Owen Bellwood

London cocktail bar Oriole took inspiration from locations around the world for its latest cocktail list, which is presented on Top Trumps-style cards.

The Mare Nostrum features on the latest menu at London’s Oriole

Drinks on the menu were created by the venue’s new senior bar team, which includes bar manager Ali Ali and head bartender Mihai Ostafi.

Taking inspiration from their own heritage as well as the exotic global locations presented within the menu, Ali and Ostafi have created a selection of drinks that build on Oriole’s previous menus with a “fresh and clean” approach.

The latest menu includes the Sandhammaren, which was inspired by Ystad in Sweden and is made with Absolut Elyx, sourdough-infused Ahus Aquavit, fig-leaf root cider, lemon juice and sea buckthorn jam.

Imbibers can also enjoy the Bon Echo, inspired by Ontario, Canada, and made with Woodford Reserve rye, Rémy Martin VSOP Cognac, juneberry-infused vermouth, Ontario leaf aperitif and northern white cedar; and the Peranakan Fizz, which was inspired by the Strait of Malacca in Malaysia and combines Roku Gin with fermented marzipan, pandan vejus, poppy-flower kefir and marshmallow meringue.

The card each drink is printed on features values to represent its taste profile, covering refreshment, booziness, complexity and fruitiness.

The all-new creations are joined by Oriole classics from previous menus that have been updated for 2019.

Drinks are served in bespoke vessels, some of which have been handmade by the Oriole team.

To compliment the cocktails, Oriole’s kitchen will serve dishes made using ingredients, spices and seasonings inspired by the old and new worlds.
