Ex-Diageo president joins Allied Blenders board

Allied Blenders and Distillers (ABD) has appointed former Diageo head Nick Blazquez to its board of directors.

Nick Blazquez has joined the Allied Blenders and Distiller’s board

Blazquez has worked in the alcohol industry for more than 27 years. Most recently, he was the president of Diageo Africa, India, Asia Pacific and duty free.

Blazquez has been on the board of Diageo group companies including United Spirits, East African Breweries, Guinness Nigeria, and Mey Icki, among others. He has also been a member of Diageo’s executive committees since 2008.

ABD, the owner of Indian whisky brand Officer’s Choice, plans to “recapitalise the business, foray further into M&A (mergers and acquisitions) opportunities and aggressively grow core business both in India and internationally”.

The appointment of Blazquez to the board will provide operation and strategic guidance to ABD’s management.

The company’s Sterling Reserve blended whisky brand is the “fastest ever” to reach one million cases in the category, according to ABD.

Kishore Chhabria, chairman and promoter of ABD, said: “I am pleased with the induction of Mr Nick Blazquez to ABD’s board. We appreciate his consent to serve as an independent director and look forward to benefitting from his business acumen and counsel.”

The world’s largest whisky brand is Officer’s Choice, which sold 32m nine-litre cases in 2017, according to Brand Champions data.
