Taste top tipples at The Wine & Spirits Show

Two of the highest-awarded products from the 2018 Global Spirits Masters competitions will be available to taste at The Wine & Spirits Show in London this week.

The acclaimed Woodford Reserve Double Oaked will be available to sample at the show

Returning to The Royal Horseguards Hotel in London, The Wine & Spirits Show will take place on 12 and 13 April as part of a collaboration between The Spirits Business and the drinks business teams.

In the spirits hall, there will be a Global Masters Spirits Zone, where visitors can taste award-winning expressions from the Global Spirits Masters – a series of blind-tasting competitions assessed by completely independent and expert judges.

The Taste Masters from each competition have been awarded ‘best in class’ by a group of esteemed judges.

Two of these highly-acclaimed expressions will be available at the show, including The Melbourne Gin Company’s Single Shot, which grabbed the top title of Gin Taste Master in The Gin Masters 2018 competition.

The ultra-premium gin was applauded for its “excellent botanical recipe” and “good length”.

The Australian gin is made in a single distillation. Seven botanicals were selected for use, including juniper berries, orange peel, angelica root, Australian bergamot, cardamom pods, Tasmania leatherwood honey and lavender.

Visitors will also have the chance to sample American Whiskey Taste Master Woodford Reserve Double Oaked, which was praised for its notes of “espresso”, “nuts”, “black pepper” and “barbecue”.

Produced by Brown-­Forman, Woodford Reserve Double Oaked has been matured in two separate white oak barrels.

The first barrel is crafted from oak that has been seasoned outdoors for nine months and is completely toasted and charred on the inside. The second barrel has been toasted for more than twice as long as the first barrel and is then very lightly charred.

Supermarket chain Lidl will also be showcasing a number of its award-winning brands including Ben Bracken single malt Scotch whisky, Hortus Premium Pink Gin, Hortus Rhubarb & Ginger Gin Liqueur, Hortus Pomegranate & Rose Gin Liqueur and Liberté White Rum.
